"Great beach!"

  • I really didn't know what to expect. The sand was nice and the water was warm. The beach was not crowded for a July 4th weekend. There was one area where we found sand dollars and shells. The beach has an area where you can drive on and park ($12 permit). Portable bathrooms were up and down the beach. We had a great time in the waves, and will probably go back. It is a 4 HR drive from our home.

  • This is a great treat for family and friends when they visit. Love to watch the dolphins chasing the Ferry's. Quick trip although not always a quick wait for the Ferry, it's still worth it.

"Lots of good habitat, lengthy boardwalks and trails"

  • Easy trails to walk and we would have spent more time here if it hadn't been so windy and it was a bit of a bird-free zone as a result. Because there was a birding festival in the area, several volunteers had spotting scopes set up in the pavilion area, which attracted a lot of people just stopping by.

"For Families"

  • Easily accessible to all of your family, this boardwalk acquaints you with some of the 28 (counted on display board) birds that visit. Also there are the resident crocodiles, snakes, lizards, frogs, nutria and fish that are part of the wetland setting and enhance your enjoyment of seeing "nature up-close". Birders are some of the friendliest and knowledgable folks and willingly point out the different birds present. Our family luckily met a professor from the University of Texas who had a telescope set up so we could see the crocodiles in the tall grasses. Our 6 & 9 year old granddaughters were elated! Every visit to this Center reveals something new and different.

  • Fabulous FREE viewing area for wildlife! Did not see the alligators, but enjoyed watching the American coots and Great Blue Herons along with many other beautiful birds. Climbed the tower and tried out the free viewing scopes on the boardwalk.
