Coffee Waves in Port Aransas
- on Trip Advisor
Having traveled all over Italy and having studied espresso quite a bit, I can happily say that Coffee Waves has it down. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get a decent espresso fix while away from home (and I'm not referring to Starbucks, I have my own little Italian machine at home). Anyone can make coffee, but espresso is another animal all together! I was so happy when I walked into this place and saw the decor, the attention to detail, and the pleasant faces behind the counter. I could also see the equipment was top notch, a good sign. And when I opened my "to go" latte, there was some gorgeous latte art created with the milk, that showed me someone was well trained and gave a darn! The owner is a gem! He spoke with us at length, gace fabulous dining suggestions, and even let me go behind the counter for a demo of his equipment and set up, very impressive. You could feel how passionate he was about what he had created there. He went to school to learn the art of making real Italian gelato. The flavors and consistency were spot on and scrumptious. The furniture was comfy and I wanted to hand out all day, but the beach beckoned. So, thanks to David for taking the time to put together a really special place. If people don't stop in, it is certainly their loss. We will be back!!! People who have mentioned that their coffee wasn't good....well, you might be suffering from Starbuck-itis. Don't get me wrong, I go there on occasion when traveling, but their coffee is bland or over-roasted. At Coffee Waves, they have it roasted for them and you can taste the blend of different bean flavors. So, if you aren't used to that it can be a little strange at first. But what I really want to say, is that I wish they were closer to my home....and when I'm in Port A, you'll find me there every morning.
