The Chamber of Commerce received a nice message from an attendee of the recent Texas Geocaching Association's Mega Event that took place in Port Aransas:
"I wanted to personally thank your city for letting us have our Annual Texas Challenge XI in your town. ALL the people and businesses were all so nice and even were helpful leading us in the right direction to find some. I was very leery of having this event in an urban setting since last year we had it in a State Park but because of your towns’ hospitality, my expectations were exceeded!" Carla - Midland, Texas

Nice shark catch at Horace Caldwell Pier
You don’t necessarily have to go out on a boat to catch a fairly sizeable shark around here.
An angler on Horace Caldwell Pier hooked a five-and-half foot blacktip on Wednesday, April 3, according to Blake Wallingsford at Horace Caldwell Pier.
“I was surprised,” Wallingsford said. “He wheeled it right off.”
Folks at the pier also recently have been catching pompano and whiting, Wallingsford said.
Speaking of sharks, Marsha Walker at Deep Sea Headquarters reported that a customer caught a 96-pound spinner shark on an eight-hour trip offshore this week. Folks on the same trip also nailed Atlantic sharpnose shark and king mackerel.
The 12-hour trip returned with amberjack, vermilion snapper, Atlantic sharpnose shark, and kingfish, Walker said.
Bay anglers have been catching red and black drum and trout, she said.
Capt. Russell Sanguinet at Fisherman’s Wharf said anglers on a recent 12-hour trip loaded up on limits of vermilion snapper and also reeled in kingfish and a few amberjack. Spinner sharks have been abundant, Sanguinet said. On nine-hour trips, folks have been catching kingfish and Atlantic sharpnose shark, he said.
Bay guides have been returning with trout and oversized redfish, Sanguinet said. Sheepshead catches have been slowing down on the north jetty, but anglers there have been catching plenty of trout, oversized redfish and pompano, he said.
Eric Peschke at Dolphin Dock said folks aboard offshore jaunts have been returning with Atlantic sharpnose shark, a little grouper, vermilion snapper and trigger fish.
Bay boats are bringing in gafftop, whiting and sheepshead, Peschke said. Spanish mackerel have been showing up at the jetties, he said.
Therisha Moreno with Woody’s Sports Center said the Island Queen has been bringing in sheepshead, and bay guides have been running into redfish, black drum, sheepshead and a few speckled trout.

PORT ARANSAS — When it comes to beach vacations, my wife and I have made a habit of visiting trendy locales with a wide variety of activities to enjoy.
But it turns out, the most versatile and family-friendly destination has always remained just a few short hours' drive south of San Antonio in Port Aransas, where the options run from everything to, well, nothing, if that is your preference.
