The sheepshead just keep biting.
That’s the word from multiple folks who work at waterfront fishing businesses inPort Aransas.
“Sheepshead are everywhere,” said Jerry Montalbo at Deep Sea Headquarters. “They’re at the jetties, the Fina dock, everywhere.”
In other fishing news, a recent eight-hour trip into state waters resulted in catches of bull redfish, Atlantic sharpnose shark and gafftop, Montalbo said.
At Fisherman’s Wharf, Bob Roberts said sheepshead catches have been supplemented by trout and redfish at the jetties. Bay guides have been finding redfish, trout and flounder, he said.
At Woody’s Sports Center, Sandra Fudge said guides have been reporting luck with redfish, black drum and, of course, sheepshead. (The sheepshead have been hitting dead peeled shrimp at the jetties, she said.)
At Dolphin Dock, Chrystal Oestreich said a recent 12-hour trip offshore returned with amberjack, kingfish, vermilion snapper and grouper.
Anglers on Horace Caldwell Pier have been hooking hardhead and whiting, said Blake Wallingsford, who works at Keepers, a shop on the pier.
