The sights and sounds of Christmas will ring throughout the City Harbor area of Port Aransas once again as island residents and visitors board boats and participate in the Annual Carolers Afloat and Boat Lighting Contest and Parade. A unique and fun way to enjoy the spirit of Christmas, whether you qualify as a candidate for the Metropolitan Opera or just enjoy singing in the shower, is to climb aboard, pick up a song book and sing, sing, sing.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th, 2013. Carolers are asked to arrive at Roberts Point Park Pavilion (near the Ferry Landing) by 6 p.m. and the boats will depart promptly at 6:30 p.m. Participants and spectators will be treated to the traditional menus of hot cocoa, tamales and cookies upon their return to shore. And, of course feature attraction of the event will be Santa Claus making his appearance via the U. S. Coast Guard to visit with the children at the Pavilion after the parade.
The ever-popular Boat Lighting Contest and Parade will be a major part of the evening’s festivities. Cash prizes will be awarded courtesy of local businesses to the best-decorated boats in four categories and “most original”. There are several categories to compete in depending on boat size Loan of a boat and captain for non-profit organizations interested in participating is also available For an entry form or further information on the Boat Lighting Contest and Parade and Carolers Afloat, call the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce/Tourist Bureau at 361-749-5919 or toll-free at 800-45-COAST.
