The Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that we captured the title of "America's Birdiest City" in the Small Coastal City division for the third year in a row.
Utilizing the peak of migration, Port Aransas birders counted 142 different species during the 72 hour window for the competition which was conducted April 28-30. "We have a dedicated group of birders, including a team from our local middle school, who go all out to help Port Aransas win the title. We have great habitat for both wintering and migrating birds which makes a huge difference in our ability to claim this title," stated Joan Holt , coordinator of the count and one of Port Aransas' expert birders.
Nueces County was named the Birdiest Coastal County and Corpus Christi holds the Largest Coastal City Division. "Boasting top awards with both the smallest and largest cities in the #1 County is a huge honor and one that will draw attention to all birding enthusiasts nationally and internationally," stated Ann Bracher Vaughan, president/CEO of the chamber.
