The Reknown Farley Boats Are Building Again
Farley Boat Works, the manufacturers of the iconic Farley Boats that were built to accommodate the needs of Port Aransas fishing guides from 1915-1975, is once again producing boats. It was purchased and renovated last year by the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association. The building is a museum, with an exhibit that portrays the role of the Farley Boat in Port A history, as well as a classroom. Several boat building teachers are passing on the craft of building boats distinct to Mustang Island to their students. They are beginning with the project of building a Port A skiff. After the skiff, they will build sailing and rowing skiffs that were common during the height of the Tarpon fishing years. Then, they plan to build a Farley Tarpon boat and a Texas Scow Sloop.
