To provide residents and area tourists an opportunity to get a head-start on their Christmas shopping, many Chamber of Commerce merchants are opening their doors the evening of Friday, December 2nd from 5 to 9 p.m. To help shoppers get into the “holiday spirit,” all of the shops are offering a 20% discount.
As an idea that was generated by the recently revitalized Chamber of Commerce Merchants Committee, the Shop Around will be an opportunity for the merchants to show shoppers what they have to offer. Chairman of the event, Michele Nicholson said, “I’m delighted to see that so many merchants are participating and hope that everyone will take this opportunity to support local retailers, get to know the business owners, and find creative Christmas gifts right here at home.”
Participating merchants include: Antique Mermaid, Bam Bam Artwares, Beach Bums Antiques, Board House,
C & G Sisters Island Boutique, Chilla’s Gift Shop, Coastal Closet, Fish On The Line, Fishtales, Gratitude,
Home Video Studio, Inside Out, LLC, Island Home Center, Island Woman Boutique, Jo D’s Etc., Mustang Island Art Gallery,Port Aransas Business Center, Port A Gallery LLC., Potters on Cotter, Raggdoll Boutique, Salt Grass Boutique,
Susan Castor Collection, The Cypress Tree, The Silver King, and Underworld.
By choosing the “first Friday” evening, the Merchants Committee thought it was a great way to entice more people to attend the Art Center for the Islands Christmas Party beginning at 5:30, get their Christmas shopping done (or started anyway) and enjoy dinner at one of Port Aransas’ enticing restaurants. “And how can you beat a 20% discount?,” stated Nicholson.
The Chamber invites everyone to continue in the Holiday Spirit and join the festivities at the Marina on Saturday by participating in the annual Caroler’s Afloat & Boat Lighting Parade. Mariners are encouraged to decorate their vessel and join the parade, while those without a seaworthy vessel are encouraged to jump aboard one of the boats provided by Queensline or Fisherman’s Wharf and cruise the marina while singing Christmas carols. Pepper Pendinski and Margaret Paton will be the song leaders on the boats. Those wishing to enter the parade are invited to submit their Registration form (see below) by noon on Saturday, December 3rd to the Chamber office (however, you can just show up by 5:30 p.m. that evening at the City Marina for the Captain’s meeting). The boat parade will begin promptly at 6:45 p.m.
Santa and his cheering elves will accompany the parade, courtesy of the U. S. Coastguard. Children are invited to visit with Santa after the parade and enjoy hot chocolate, tamales and cookies.
The Enchanted Forest at the Civic Center, sponsored by The City of Port Aransas Parks & Recreation Department will be open to the public from Monday, December 12th through Thursday, December 22nd. Any non-profit organization is invited to pick a specific year as the theme for their tree and join the decorating party on Sunday, December 11. This annual event allows residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy Christmas in true ‘Port A’ style – from “beachy” to traditional.
