Port A is home to the oldest fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast, The Deep Sea Roundup, going on its 76th year this July 7 − 10.
In addition to an abundance of tournaments and fishing excursions for beginners and the experienced, Port Aransas offers endless forms of angling, including bay, offshore, fly, piers, jetties or just sit back and spend the morning fishing the surf.
Common bay and channel fish include mackerel, redfish, speckled trout, flounder and black drum. Deep-sea catches include kingfish, sailfish, marlin, tuna and more.
Port Aransas hosts a different fishing tournament nearly every weekend during the summer months. The south jetty, a mile long strip of granite and concrete used to guide large ships on their way to the Port of Corpus Christi, is also a popular place to fish and also watch the birds, dolphins and ships go by.
